Contact lens exams are different than your annual exam but can be done at the same visit. Contact lenses are medical devices designed to be inserted directly onto the surface of the eye to correct vision. Unlike glasses, which rest on the face, contact lenses are worn in direct contact with the cornea and require precise measurements to ensure a proper fit. These measurements typically include the curvature of the cornea, the diameter of the eye, and the prescription strength for each eye. Additionally, the lens material and design must be selected based on an individual’s eye health and lifestyle needs. Our goal is for you to feel confident and comfortable before you leave; we will show you the proper insertion and removal and care of your new contacts.
In addition to soft contact lens, we also fit for hard contacts or Rigid Gas Permeable (RGP). RGP lenses are a type of contact lens made from durable, oxygen-permeable materials that allow for better oxygen flow to the cornea compared to soft lenses. Unlike soft lenses, RGP lenses maintain their shape on the eye, providing sharper, more precise vision, particularly for those with astigmatism or irregular corneas. They are known for their durability, resistance to protein buildup, and longer lifespan, making them a cost-effective choice over time. While RGP lenses may take a little longer to adjust to due to their firmer nature, they are highly beneficial for eye health, offering improved comfort, clearer vision, and a lower risk of complications like dryness or infections.
